Writing features:
Writing CDs
We have written data- and audiofiles to a CD and stopped the time. The CD
was written in the Track-at-Once mode and closed. The writing software was
the added Easy CD Creator 4.01 of Adaptec. The writing speed results in:

The writing speeds do not reach the presaid 4-fold speed
(Corresponds to 600 KB/s). It lies in comparison to the other tested
drives in the some region thereunder.
HDD Simulation
We have formated a CD-RW ruffian with the help of the added Direct CD 3.0
software. The formating process lasted 33:17 min. After this we copied in
the Explorer a full directory (543,2 MB) from the hard disk to the
formated CD. The copying lasted 22:43 min. This gives a transfer rate of
408.1 KB/s or 2,72x CD. These are known values too.
Equipment & Accessories
Only a Play/Skip button for problemless listening to CDs is missing at the
naked drive. There is no lack of necessary accessories. Audio-cable,
interface-cable, screws, ruffians and two software-CDs are added. One of
the two CDs includes the newest versions of Adaptecs writing software: Easy CD Creator 4.01 und Direct CD
3.0. On the other CD are additional tools. A special audio-writing-program
(Feurio), a copy-program for CDs (Instand-CD), a CD-control tool (TEAC
CD-Player) and other useful tools. The further CD-contain remembers of a
TEAC promotion CD: Photos, specifications and press releases of other TEAC
products.
There is a lack of drivers for the drive (the user should use the standard
IDE-driver) and of a handbook to the writing software.
TEAC delivers many useful adds , but some basic elements are missing.
Perhaps TEAC can change this in future.
Handbook
An installation guide is addes. The mounting of the drive is declared
here. The installation-guide is useful for the expert user, but novices
have problems at one part. There is no declaration of the jumpering of the
drive on the several positions at the IDE-ports. Everything else, as the
handling of the connectors and the further build-in, ia detailed explained
and makes no problems.
TEAC resigns on a written help to repairing problems. Here the handbook
refers to the telephone number of the customer service.
A handbook to the writing software is missing, too. You can only use the
helpmenu of the program for getting information. So the first writing try
can make some problems.
Overall
If you look at the performance of the drive, it is a good entrance in the
rewritable CD-writer market for TEAC. The CD-ROM performance is above
average and the wirter lies in the some region as the other tested writing
drives.
The accessories are manifold and useful on the one hand, but on the other
hand one added CD is more a TEAC-promotion. A big minus is in every case
the miss of a handbook to the writing software. It should be available as
print or on CD.
