CD-ROM features:
Speed
We measured the reading speed of CD-ROMs as usual with the benchmark
Maxa CD Bench Pro. The results depending of the CD-type:

Table 2: Acecess
times and transfer rates concerning different CD-types |
As you can see in table 2 the strength of the drive are in reading
original-CDs and blue CD-Rs. These media are the average transfer rate and
the benchmark value top. Green CD-Rs deliver acceptable values, but the
drive reads rewritable CD-RWs only with 8 speed (nominally is 32 speed,
that means it reads with 25% averagely). The drive should be used for
reading only in the case of original-CDs and blue CD-Rs, at events for
green CD-Rs too. Here the drive is really TOP und delivers values, which
can compete with CD-ROM drives.
By the way this drives has the best values comparing with the other tested
writers (they had all only 24-fold reading speed). They reached only 8
speed at all media. The reading speed at CD-RWs is settled there. The
reading of other media are really top.
Error correcting
To the error correcting test we benchmarked a prepared
original-CD. This CD has two scratches, which are building a "V"
together. How the values changed, you can see here:

Table 3:
Error correcting |
As you can see the performance falls rapidly. The transfer rate is
about a third and the benchmark is 2.5 points deeper. A sign for problems
with the prepared CD. The low values can be explained in the way, that the
speed does not rise after a errorsector is passed. A good drive should do
this. Here can be much improved.
Copy of a CD
For a confirmation of the benchmarks we copied a full CD (552 MB) to the
hard disk. The CD-W54E needs exactly 3:11 min for the copy. The middle
transferrate is
This certifies the good result in the speed testī.
Audio-grabbing
At the digital audio extraction (DAE) is the CD-W54E with 8,28-fold
extraction speed as fast as the test competitors.

At the Log In time for several media the drive lies in far in
front. This time is said to be between 10 and 40 seconds. The CD-W54E
comes near to the 10 seconds:
