Our tests revealed both positive and negative aspects of this drive.

The Mitsumi CR-4805TE (8/4/32) captivates with its outstanding burning capabilities, comparable to those of LG's CED-8080B. It acheives 7.78x rates when writing to CD-Rs, and a 3.87x rate with CD-RWs. (The blank CD-RW bundled with the drive could be written to at 3.22x.) A further highlight is its ability to extract digital audio from CDs at 24x. These factors combine to give it a great price/performance ratio.

The most striking negative point is the poor error correction. The drive performs almost no more work after encountering the error. The access times of the CR-4805TE are likewise below average. The printed manual provides only the most basic information, and the CD's more detailed .pdf file presumes error-free installation of the drive.

In all other tests (transfer rates, logging in), performance was exactly average.
