Error
Correction
To test error correction, we made two scratches in a “V” shape on a CD. A speed test with CDSpeed 99 gave the following
results:
As one can see from the diagram, the PleXWriter acheives the 32x terminal velocity easily despite the scratches. At the defective point in the disc, the speed is clearly reduced, but returns to normal almost immediately. If you look up “Good error correction” in the dictionary, you will see a picture of this
graph!

Here a little more work is needed. Other drives leavethe PleXWriter in the dust with 100ms random access times and 150ms for full access. We need not point out here that this is quite poor
performance.
Login Time
Login time is the amount of time that passes between the insertion of a disc and the display of its
contents. We have seen login times as high as 40 seconds, but quality drives are usually closer to 10
seconds. The PleXWriter 12/10/32A needed 11 seconds for blue CD-Rs, 14 seconds for original CDs, 13 secinds for green CD-Rs 13, and 15 seconds for rewritable CDs.
This is also good performance from the PleXWriter.
Digital Audio Extraction
Our digital audio selections are the .WAV files from the tracks of an audio CD. We measured the reading speed using AudioCatalyst. Here are the
results:
This drive is a brilliant audio extractor. Our previous champion in this category was beaten by 2 points. The 26.4x terminal velocity amounts to an average extraction speed of 21.2x. We copied 80 minutes worth of .WAV audio onto the hard drive in less than 4 minutes.
