Conclusions
Our tests brought many positive results to light. The relatively high access times and the absence of burning instructions in the manual were noticeably negaitive points.
This drive impresses with its excellent error correction. Also, in digital audio playback, it achieves a 26.4x rate, the best we’ve ever seen here at AAPC.
We also can’t complain about the outstanding error correction. BURN Proof technology practically eliminates burn process failures. And even if it is a tiny detail, the inclusion of the emergency ejection pin is very pleasant.
When reading data the PleXWriter impressed us with its consistency. With each " normal " medium it easily achieved the 32x rate. With CD-RWs, it wrote at a very good 24x.
The PleXWriter 12/10/32A gave us good, but not outstanding burning. It writes CD-Rs at a 11.4x rate, and writes CD-RWs at 9.24x. It formatted a CD-RW for UDF (using PacketCD) in just over a quarter of an hour (16:37 minutes), and thereafter could write to the UDF CD-RW at 7.85x.
The remaining test areas, i.e. login time and manual, are adequate, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Verdict
Reliable, fast and safe burner
The PleXWriter is an excellent product and certainly worthy of reccommendation.
Price may be the only big consideration here: new users will probably be unlikely to pay some $250 for a CD burner when there are many less expensive options around.
